The West Coast Avengers fly out to Albuquerque to try to recruit Firebird as their sixth member. They leave Hank behind, not paying enough attention to how despondent he's been.
Hank dwelling on what Whirlwind told him, starts to contemplate suicide. During their flight to Albuquerque, Iron Man tells the team about Hank back in the old days and how essential he was in forming the Avengers and making the team up a permanent thing.  When the team gets to Bonita's apartment, they learn that she's been missing for over a month. In the process of searching for more information around town, they're ambushed by a group of villains apparently working for one called Dominus. The flying heat-generating Sunstroke claims to be human, using powers of his own devising, but explains that his cohorts Butte, Gila, and Cactus are merely artificial humanoids created by Dominus.
The Avengers gain the upper hand, but as they do, a mysterious force beam grabs the Desert Dwellers and whisks them away from the battle. Iron Man tracks them to a base hidden in a mountain in the Arizona desert and recognizes the uniform of the Desert Dwellers' boss inside as belonging to the alien Lucifer.
Dominus explains that Lucifer was his predecessor and that he won't fail in his inherited mission to enslave the world. To get the Avengers out of the way, as soon as they enter his chamber Dominus activates the Time Platform they stepped onto, a damaged version of Doctor Doom's device he found in the desert that can only travel backwards in time. Dominus laughs maniacally, confident that he has trapped the Avengers in the distant past.
Meanwhile, Hank Pym spends the day settling accounts and preparing to kill himself. Just as he's holding the gun to his head, he's interrupted by the sudden appearance of Bonita, now bearing the identity of La Espirita, who brings him a message of hope from God.

Today's Lunchtime Reading West Coast Avengers #15 the Lady...or the Tigra

The West Coast Avengers are still trapped on a boat on the River of Death with Hellstrom, Hellcat and Master Pandemonium (see last issue) and he decides to reveal his origin. Mephisto saved his life after an auto accident and separated his soul into 5 pieces and gave them to five very different demons, in five different parts of reality.

And finally lading in the Land Within (AKA the land of the Cat People)

Master Pandemonium can sense one of his soul parts in the Land Within! The Cat People are not happy that the West Coast Avengers have come back to their world and have brought Master Pandemonium. Tigra can finally change from Greer back to Tigra, but is worried about losing herself in Tigra again. The Cat People decide to take the out-worlders to their king to face judgment. The King is upset that Tigra has not fulfilled her end of their bargain by killing Master Pandemonium.

The West Coast Avengers are not happy that Tigra has agreed to this deal since Avengers do not kill! Mockingbird figures out that it was Tigra that knocked her out when facing Master Pandemonium way back in West Coast Avengers #9. The Cat King tells Master Pandemonium that the reason they wanted Tigra to kill him was because they had one piece of his soul!

The Cat King wants Tigra to complete their deal and takes her and Master Pandemonium to stadium the has his people remove the demons that Master Pandemonium uses for limbs. Tigra refuses to kill him because she is an Avenger! The Cat King strips away Tigra from Greer and locks her and the West Coast Avengers away. Hellcat gives her suit to Greer since she knows the Cat People and the Land Within better than her.

The West Coast Avengers fight for their lives against the Cat People! Greer in the Hellcat suit beats the Cat People’s champion and during the battle the soul jar containing Tigra’s soul is broken and returns to Greer making her stronger, faster and with the mind of Greer Nelson.

And in the confusion, Master Pandemonium gets the soul jar with one piece of his soul, smashes it and gets 1/5 of his soul back. Iron Man wants to chase him but Hawkeye says let him go since he beat Mephisto (at least 1/5th) and they need to get back and have a BBQ since they got an Avenger back today!
